Candle Care & Safety
Beautiful Candles Begin with Proper Care
A few simple habits will help your candle burn cleaner, last longer, and fill your home with its best fragrance.
First Burn Matters Most
The First Burn Sets the Memory
The very first burn is the most important.
Allow the wax to melt completely across the surface before extinguishing the flame. This usually takes 2–4 hours depending on candle size.
This helps prevent tunnelling and creates an even burn throughout the life of your candle.
Burn until the wax melts all the way to the edges.
Stopping too soon can cause tunnelling.
Before Every Light
Trim the Wick
Trim to ¼ inch before every burn. A properly trimmed wick creates a cleaner flame, minimizes soot, and helps your candle burn evenly.
Burn 2–4 Hours
Avoid burning for more than four hours at a time. Long burns can overheat the wax and shorten candle life.
Avoid Drafts
Keep candles away from fans, open windows, and air vents. Drafts create uneven burning and excess smoke.
Safety First
Keep Away from Children & Pets
Place candles where they cannot be reached or knocked over.
Burn on a Heat-Resistant Surface
Always use a candle plate or non-flammable surface.
Never Leave Unattended
Always extinguish candles before leaving the room.
Keep Away from Flammable Objects
Curtains, books, decorations, and paper should always be kept clear of the flame.
Allow to Cool Before Moving
Glass containers become hot during use. Wait until completely cool before touching or moving.
Stop Burning Before Empty
Discontinue use when approximately ¼ inch of wax remains. This helps protect the container from excessive heat.
Wick Care
What Is a Mushroom Wick?
If you notice a small mushroom-shaped carbon buildup on the wick, don’t worry. This is completely normal when burning natural wax candles.
What to do
Extinguish the candle
Allow it to cool
Trim the wick to ¼″
Relight and enjoy a clean, even burn
Getting the Most from Your Candle

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my candle tunneling?
The first burn wasn’t long enough. Allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges before extinguishing. This sets the memory of the candle and prevents tunnelling on future burns.
Why did my wick mushroom?
Natural carbon buildup. Simply extinguish the candle, allow it to cool, and trim the wick to ¼ inch before relighting. This is completely normal with natural wax candles.
Can I burn it all day?
We recommend no more than four hours at a time to maintain the quality and lifespan of your candle. Extended burns can overheat the wax and shorten candle life.
Why is there black soot?
Usually the wick needs trimming or the candle is in a draft. Trim to ¼ inch and keep away from drafts, fans, and open windows.
Why isn’t my candle smelling as strong?
Allow the melt pool to reach the edges of the container. This helps the fragrance oils release properly. Also ensure the room isn’t too large or too ventilated.
Can I reuse the jar?
Absolutely. After cleaning the remaining wax with warm soapy water, the vessel makes a beautiful planter, bathroom organizer, or desk accessory.
